UZI (F16s): PRIMO*, TACO, SPARE, SPARE
Operation Poseidon’s Kiss
Situation
- NATO supplying Chile amidst a cold war with Argentina with shipments from the Atlantic through the strait of Punta Arenas.
- Cold war turned hot overnight with Argentina closing the strait and threatening to sink any supplies seeking to enter Chile.
- Two civilian convoys (7 ships each) were already en-route with time-sensitive materials that must reach Chilean hands near-term.
- The Roosevelt Strike Group entering the theatre from the Northeast and split off a cruiser to protect each civilian ship group at full speed.
- At a speed of 30 knots, given the rough seas, it will take the better part of a day to rendezvous with the convoys so the convoys have been ordered to halt several hundred miles from the Argentine coast for their safety.
- A dispatch of FA-18/C hornets, paired with NATO F-16s at Mount Pleasant airbase in the Falklands are ordered to protect each convoy on a rotation.
- VMFA-115 and associated Vipers scheduled to protect the convoys for approximately 60 minutes of playtime (excludes transit).
- ROE: Weapons Free, no civilian aircraft in this remote area.
- Anything that’s not an F16, F18, AWACS, Shell, Texaco, or Arco is deemed hostile.
- WPT 1 = Bulls / E3A out of Mt. Pleasant’s anchor point (all flights)
- WPT 2 = Your flight’s designated protection area (we all have different WPT 2s)
- Colt protect the northern Convoy (i.e. your WPT 2)
- Uzi protect southern Convoy (i.e. your WPT 2)
- Dodge flight to protect AWACS (i.e. your WPT 2 is right near BULLS) and Tankers (Texaco [WPT 3] and Shell [WPT 4])
- Texaco and Shell undergoing repairs and won’t be on-station for ~45 minutes after we depart (plan accordingly). See Map in discord.
- Texaco: Angels 22, 51Y, 251.00 AM, Aux #2 for Hornets
- Shell: Angels 22: 27Y, 127.00 AM; Aux #2 for Vipers
- WPT 3 (Colt and Uzi have same) = Strait of Punta Arenas Argentine Naval blockade – anticipated likely threat axis.
- WPT 4 (Air force only) Mount Pleasant airbase
- TACAN: 59X
- ILS: 111.90 MHz on Active Runway 28
- Boat Logistics (standard):
- 71X
- 11 ICLS
- BRC: 301
- Tower: Button #1, 127.500
- Manage fuel conservatively to maximize time on-station. Tank mid-mission or on the way back.
- Work the radar for threats high and low (adjust bars, azimuth, PRF).
- Positioning: Any threat coming towards your convoy must converge on your WPT 2.
- Position yourselves a bit behind WPT 2 relative to WPT 3 (or the incoming threat, if different) so all threats are coming towards you. Engaging a threat moving both closer AND across your nose is harder to detect/maintain lock than if it’s closer to head-on.
- This mission is more of a slow-burn, you likely won't fire off all your missiles or get into dogfights - its about doing a difficult task precisely and not letting anything slip past you.
- Rain/Cloud decks at 24K FT and 20K Ft.
- 16:55 Departure; CASE I.
- F-18s: 3x Fuel, 5x AIM-120C, 1x POD, 2x AIM-9X
- Pod optional, can swap for another AIM-120C
- F-16s: 3x Fuel, 6x AIM-120C, 1x POD
- Pod/HTS optional – far outside of SAM Range.
- Can swap in AIM-9Xs if desired.
- Multiple Mig 25s observed patrolling Argentine coast periodically.
- Aerial threats = main focus.
- SA-10 at Rio Gallegos (no factor, over 150NM away).
- No ship threats visible that can reach in the next several hours, so no harpoons required on our patrol shift.
